Description
These statistics describe the return of goods imported in Finland i.e. their export back to the sending country, and the return of goods exported from Finland i.e. their import back in Finland.
Data content
Return goods are goods which have been returned to the seller in the same condition as when imported in / exported from the country. Return goods are not included in the trade statistics material but recorded to statistics separately.
These statistics specify the import/export value of goods by the CN categories.
Data collecting method
Statistical data on return goods are collected through the Intrastat system on the EU Member States and through customs declarations on countries not in the EU.
Applied classifications
The compilation of statistics on commodities is based on the Combined Nomenclature CN of the EU. Export statistics are compiled by the countries of destination according to the FOB ("free on board") value and import statistics by the countries of origin according to the CIF ("cost, insurance, and freight") value.

These statistics are not published any more (since 2005). Data on years succeeding 2004 are accessible at special request only at the Statistics Unit of the National Board of Customs.
Time series
Information on return goods exists since 1981. Information is available in an electronic form on CD-Rom from 2002 to 2004. Earlier data are available in print at the reading room or in the archives of the Statistics Service.
